Painting with David Cuthbert Re-Inventing the Still Life Dinner Friday 15 – Lunch Sunday 17 November 2011 Still-life
painting has a long history within Western art. In the twentieth century
there was a complete renewal of the tradition. First Matisse and then
the Cubists began to restructure the spaces, the colour and the
composition of the humble life arrangement. During this weekend, in a
number of short projects, we will draw and paint from the still-life in
ways that are exploratory and imaginative. Bring the medium (or mediums)
you prefer. All-comers welcome. Prices range from £256 resident, to £168 non-resident
Painting with David Cuthbert Drawing Forth - Experimental & Exploratory Drawing Dinner Friday 23 – Lunch Sunday 25 March 2012 This
course will consist of short projects in which we will be exploring the
expressive, structural and inventive possibilities of conventional and
unconventional graphic media (pencils, crayons, marker pens, ink pens,
quills, reed pens and other improvised mark making tools), on different
supports – papers, card, newspaper, plastic etc. This course is
ideally suited for those interested in pursuing a non-objective,
‘abstract’ approach to making art. All-comers welcome. Prices range from £256 resident, to £168 non-resident
Art History with David Cuthbert Dada, Reason and Unreason Dinner Friday 18 – Lunch Sunday 20 May 2012 During
the First World War angry young men and women, disgusted by the
senseless slaughter in the trenches, invented Dada. The cities of
Zurich, Cologne, Hanover, Berlin, Paris, Barcelona and New York each
contributed widely different interpretations – from the gentle
contemplative work of Jean (Hans) Arp and Sophie Taeuber, the
confrontational imagery of George Grosz, the subversion of Francis
Picabia and Marcel Duchamp to the elevation of humble materials in the
collages of Kurt Schwitters and Hannah Höch. All-comers welcome. Prices range from £256 resident, to £168 non-resident *********************************************************** |
